Residents, businesses, and some individuals traveling through the City may require a special permit from the City of Fairfax.  The Police Department is responsible for issuing permits to individuals or business involved in certain fundraising activities or businesses.  (Other City departments such as the Office of the Commissioner of Revenue issue other required permits and licenses.  See their page for details on those.)

Specifically, the Police Department is responsible for issuing permits related to adult businesses, charitable organizations that solicit, firearms dealers, massage establishments, massage therapists, precious metal dealers, and anyone looking to canvass, peddle, or solicit in the City.  Included in each section below is a general outline of these regulations. You will also find links to the corresponding City Code Ordinances in each section. You are encouraged to call the Police Department at 703.385.7955 if you need clarification or assistance.

NOTE: Licenses and permits you or your business may have from other jurisdictions, including Fairfax County, are not valid in the City of Fairfax.
